About 14K Gold Jewelry
Lab grown diamond jewelry in solid 14K gold, yellow, white, rose and two-tone. Harder than 18K and the more practical answer for a piece worn on the hands every day, though the full comparison is worth five minutes before you choose. Made to move with you.
14K or 18K gold, which is better for everyday wear?
14K is 58.5 percent gold and harder, so it resists scratching and bending better and is the more practical choice for a ring or bracelet worn every day. 18K is 75 percent gold, warmer in color and softer. Neither is more real than the other. If a piece will be worn constantly and knocked against things, 14K holds its shape longer.
Is this solid gold or plated?
Solid. Everything here is solid 14K gold throughout, not gold plated, gold filled or vermeil. The metal weight is listed separately from the gross weight on every product page, so the amount of gold in a piece is stated rather than implied.
Will 14K gold turn my skin green or irritate it?
14K gold is alloyed with other metals, usually copper, silver and zinc, and copper is what occasionally leaves a mark on skin in humid conditions. It is not a reaction to the gold. If nickel is the concern, ask before ordering: nickel sensitivity is common and the alloy matters more than the karat.
Does 14K yellow, white and rose gold wear differently?
Rose gold contains the most copper and is the hardest of the three. White gold is alloyed pale and rhodium plated, and that plating wears and needs redoing every few years. Yellow gold sits between them and needs nothing but occasional cleaning.
Are the diamonds lab grown?
Yes. Every diamond MERVAUX sets is lab grown. Where a piece has an individually graded center stone, its IGI report number is listed in the details on the product page.
