Description

7.13 ct pear brilliant, F color, VS1, IGI certified, measuring 16.18 by 9.98 mm. A 1.62 length to width ratio, the long end of the pear range.

Pears are directional. Point up, point down, or turned sideways in a pendant, the same stone reads differently in each. At seven carats that decision is the whole design.

Setting a pear

The point is the part that chips, so it needs a V-prong over it. At seven carats that is not optional. Five or six prongs around the body, and a shank narrow enough that the shoulders of the stone are not sitting on metal. A pear is also the easiest large shape to move into a pendant later, because the point does the work of a bail.

Reading the numbers

Pears run from about 1.45 to 1.75. At 1.62 this one is genuinely elongated rather than a rounded teardrop. The 63.8% depth is on the deep side, which keeps light working inside the belly of the stone instead of leaking through the bottom, and the 62% table is moderate, so the flashes are smaller and more frequent than in an open-table cut.

Common questions

Which direction should a pear shaped diamond point?

Toward the fingertip is the usual choice, because it lengthens the look of the hand. Point-down and east-west are both worn, and nothing about the cut requires one over another.

Is a 7 carat pear practical for everyday wear?

The stone is 16.18 mm long, so it catches on fabric and door handles more than a compact shape would. At this size many people set it low or keep it for a pendant.

Does a longer pear show more bow tie?

Usually. The darker band across the middle tends to widen as the ratio lengthens, which is worth checking in motion rather than in a photograph.

Questions about this piece

Is this a lab grown diamond or a mined diamond?
Lab grown. Every diamond MERVAUX sells is grown in a laboratory rather than mined. It is the same material as a mined diamond, graded on the same scale, and the carat, color and clarity on this page are read exactly the way they would be on a mined stone.
Is the metal solid, or plated?
Solid gold. MERVAUX does not use plated, gold filled or vermeil metal, so the metal here is solid all the way through. The gross weight and the metal weight are both listed in the details table on this page.
What are the specifications of this piece?
Total diamond weight 7.13 ct. Shape pear. Clarity VS1. The full breakdown, including every stone in the piece, is in the details table on this page.
Is the diamond IGI certified?
Yes. This piece is IGI certified. IGI issues a Laboratory Grown Diamond Report, and the report number for the stone is listed with the stone details on this page, so it can be looked up against IGI's own records.
Does MERVAUX ship free in the United States?
Shipping inside the United States is free. MERVAUX ships from Palo Alto, California, and currently ships to United States addresses only.
Can I return it if it is not right?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unworn and in its original packaging with proof of purchase. Email sunny@xdiamondinc.com to start a return; once it is approved MERVAUX sends a return shipping label, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within 10 business days.
