How to read a diamond
Four measures decide what a stone looks like in the light, and what it costs.
Cut
The one grade made by human hands. Cut governs how light enters a stone and returns to the eye, and it matters more to brilliance than any other factor.
Colour
Graded D through Z, from colourless downward. Our stones sit in the D to F range, where no warmth is visible to the naked eye.
Clarity
A measure of the inclusions formed as the crystal grows. VS and VVS stones are eye-clean; nothing you would ever see without magnification.
Carat
Weight, not size. Two stones of equal carat can read very differently on the hand depending on how the cut distributes that weight.
