A saved photograph can tell you a great deal about your taste. Perhaps it is the sweep of a marquise diamond, the warmth of yellow gold, or a ring that seems to belong to another era. Looking at celebrity engagement rings becomes more useful when you can name the detail that drew you in.

For anyone choosing an engagement ring in 2026, two distinctive examples offer a starting point: Selena Gomez’s marquise ring, announced in December 2024, and Taylor Swift’s old mine brilliant-cut ring, announced in August 2025. Their appeal opens a conversation about proportion, light and the kind of jewelry you want to live with.

Selena Gomez’s engagement ring: the line of a marquise

Gomez shared her engagement to Benny Blanco in her December 11, 2024 Instagram announcement. The ring pairs a marquise-shaped center diamond with a diamond-set band. Its long outline gives the composition a strong direction, while the curved sides soften the two pointed ends.

What to notice in the opening photograph: two tapered ends give the center stone its long silhouette. The smaller round diamonds along the band add a second rhythm of light. When trying a similar shape, compare the center’s width with the band’s width as well as its length.

If this is the image you keep returning to, start by trying different marquise proportions. A longer, narrower stone and a fuller one can feel surprisingly different on the same hand. Compare the outline first, then the way each diamond responds when you move.

A practical detail matters here: the pointed ends need protection. Ask how the setting supports them, and examine the ring at a normal viewing distance. As GIA explains, marquise diamonds may show a bow-tie-shaped area of contrast across the middle. Look at the whole pattern of light, rather than judging the stone from a single brightly lit photograph.

Taylor Swift’s engagement ring: the character of an old mine cut

Swift and Travis Kelce shared their engagement announcement on August 26, 2025. Swift’s publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that her ring features an old mine brilliant-cut diamond from Kindred Lubeck. The original report records the designer and cutting style.

What to notice: rounded corners soften the elongated center, while broad light-and-dark reflections give it a different character from the pointed marquise above. The warm gold-colored setting frames the stone. A photograph can show this design contrast; it cannot establish a diamond’s grade or exact weight.

Old mine cuts are associated with a softly squared outline, a relatively high crown, a small table and a visible culet. Their faceting can produce broad flashes of light. For someone drawn to an antique feeling, those individual characteristics may matter more than a perfectly regular outline.

Be precise about what you are buying. An antique diamond, a newly cut diamond in an old mine style and a modern cushion-cut diamond describe different things. A cushion may echo the soft outline without sharing the same facet arrangement. GIA’s old mine cut guide explains the distinction.

Compare the details you can actually see

Detail Selena Gomez Taylor Swift
Outline Marquise, with two pointed ends Elongated outline with rounded corners
Setting detail A visible row of smaller diamonds A warm gold-colored frame around the center
Try on Different length-to-width proportions Different corner shapes and facet patterns

Turn a celebrity reference into your own ring brief

Choose two or three details from your saved images and describe them in plain language: an elongated silhouette, a rounded corner, a substantial band, a low setting. This gives your jeweler a direction while leaving room for a ring that suits your hand and routine.

  • Outline: compare actual millimeter measurements and proportions alongside carat weight.
  • Setting: try the profile from the side, checking comfort and how it sits beside a wedding band.
  • Light: ask to see the diamond moving in ordinary indoor light and daylight.
  • Everyday fit: consider typing, clothing, hand movement and how often you will remove the ring.

Can a similar silhouette be explored with a lab-grown diamond?

Yes. Diamond shape and diamond origin answer different questions. Lab-grown and natural diamonds have essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties, while their growth origins differ. A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond grown in a controlled environment; “natural” describes a diamond formed in the earth.

Choose the individual stone for its appearance and documented characteristics, with its origin clearly disclosed. A celebrity photograph cannot establish a diamond’s origin, quality or value. These references are about design; they do not imply that either celebrity wears MERVAUX or owns a lab-grown diamond.
