A princess has four exposed corners and those corners are where a stone chips. Every sound setting for one covers them: V-prongs at each corner, or a bezel. The shape also sits flush against a straight wedding band, which no rounded outline does, so a princess solitaire and a plain band meet with no gap and no contour band needed.
Reading the numbers
A ratio of 1.00 makes this a true square. Princess cuts are often a little rectangular and then look lopsided beside a square band; this one does not. The 63.8% depth is normal for the cut and explains the trade: a princess holds weight below the girdle, so three carats reads smaller face-up than three carats of oval and returns more light for it.
