Description

7.62 ct oval brilliant, G color, VS1, IGI certified, measuring 15.39 by 11.14 mm. A 1.38 length to width ratio.

Most ovals sit between 1.35 and 1.50. This one is at the wide end, so it reads rounder and shows less of the dark band that long ovals carry through the center.

Setting a wide oval

A 1.38 ratio is close enough to round that a plain solitaire suits it. Longer ovals usually want a setting that emphasises the length; this one does not need the help. Double claws at the two points protect the thinnest part of the girdle, which is where an oval takes knocks. A hidden halo underneath adds height without changing the outline, and the outline is already 15.39 mm long.

Reading the numbers

The 59.2% depth is shallow, so more of the weight shows from above than a deep stone of the same carat would. The 67% table is broad. Together those two numbers are why this stone covers as much finger as it does, and also why its brightness comes in wide flashes rather than fine scintillation.

Common questions

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?

Face-up, yes. This 7.62 carat oval is 15.39 mm long, while a round of the same weight measures about 12.5 mm across. That trade is most of the difference between the two shapes.

What does G color look like in an oval?

Near colorless. Ovals hold a little more color at the two points than a round does, so G shows as slight warmth at the ends rather than across the face, and disappears in yellow gold.

Is a bow tie a defect?

No. Almost every oval has one, a darker band across the middle. It moves with the stone, so it is worth looking at a video rather than a still.

Questions about this piece

Is this a lab grown diamond or a mined diamond?
Lab grown. Every diamond MERVAUX sells is grown in a laboratory rather than mined. It is the same material as a mined diamond, graded on the same scale, and the carat, color and clarity on this page are read exactly the way they would be on a mined stone.
Is the metal solid, or plated?
Solid gold. MERVAUX does not use plated, gold filled or vermeil metal, so the metal here is solid all the way through. The gross weight and the metal weight are both listed in the details table on this page.
What are the specifications of this piece?
Total diamond weight 7.62 ct. Shape oval. Clarity VS1. The full breakdown, including every stone in the piece, is in the details table on this page.
Is the diamond IGI certified?
Yes. This piece is IGI certified. IGI issues a Laboratory Grown Diamond Report, and the report number for the stone is listed with the stone details on this page, so it can be looked up against IGI's own records.
Does MERVAUX ship free in the United States?
Shipping inside the United States is free. MERVAUX ships from Palo Alto, California, and currently ships to United States addresses only.
Can I return it if it is not right?
Yes, within 30 days of delivery, unworn and in its original packaging with proof of purchase. Email sunny@xdiamondinc.com to start a return; once it is approved MERVAUX sends a return shipping label, and the refund goes back to the original payment method within 10 business days.
