At 1.49 the outline is closer to a square than most emerald cuts, so a thin band suits it better than a wide one: the narrower the shank, the more of the stone reads as length. A G takes warmth from its surroundings, which makes yellow gold a deliberate choice here rather than a compromise. The metal and the stone agree instead of competing.
Reading the numbers

What is the difference between an emerald cut and an Asscher?
An Asscher is square, usually 1.00 to 1.05, with the same step facets. An emerald cut is rectangular. At 1.49 this is clearly an emerald cut, on the squarer side of the range.
Does a shallow emerald cut lose anything?
It trades depth for spread. The same weight covers more finger, and the corridor of steps you see looking down is shorter than in a deep stone.
